In a couple of weeks, the milestone 20th edition of the Dam Short Film Festival gets underway. If you go — and you should! — set aside extra time to imbibe Boulder City’s small-town quaintness, geek out on vintage items, and have something to eat.

Go Early

Try breakfast at the Coffee Cup — if you can get in. (It calls itself “The World Famous Coffee Cup.”) Its pork chili verde omelet is one of my favorite dishes involving folded eggs. Not a big eater? Try the Dam Roast House; stop for the coffee and light breakfast items, stay for the attached Browder Bookstore.

Throwback Shopping

Stroll through downtown’s vintage and antique stores: Sherman’s House of Antiques, followed by the multi-vendor Boulder City Antique Market. Visit Boulder Vintage before finishing strong at the oddly named Goatfeathers. I haven’t found these stores to be redundant; each has its own surprises.

Hungry Again?

Between the film festival and antique shopping, you’ve worked up an appetite. For a wine-forward meal, try Milo’s Cellar. Another option: The Dillinger, which prides itself on its burgers. I like the Baby Face Nelson, the ingredients of which include brie cheese and fig marmalade. 😋
