Boulder City’s new Adventure Center makes booking a bike ride, asking about a kayaking trip, and planning an exploration of Southern Nevada much easier. The center solves a practical problem: You don’t need to own the equipment or know the route to try something close to home.

How much guidance do you want? Canyon Riders offers guided e-bike tours. If you already have a route in mind, Loop Trail Rentals supplies e-bikes for independent outings. The center’s tour and rental directory lists both.

Russ Beutler, the center’s director, pointed out the convenience of picking up a bike near the trails. One rental operator previously worked out of a trailer; now customers can visit a retail location instead of arranging a parking-lot meetup.

You can also get onto the water without picking up a paddle. Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures offers river trips, while Lake Mead Cruises takes passengers out on the lake. For a different perspective altogether, Papillon Helicopters offers scenic flights. The center lets you compare options and ask questions before committing.

Travel Nevada CEO Rafael Villanueva expects locals to become repeat customers, discovering another outing when they arrive for the first.

Booking ahead makes sense if you have your heart set on a particular activity. If you’re still deciding, use a visit to meet the operators and plan a future day out. Check directly with each business about availability, what equipment is included, what to bring, and where to meet; the center is a planning stop, and individual excursions have their own departure arrangements.

Villanueva sees plenty of potential for residents to use it regularly: “We really think a good part of the business that we’ll have will eventually be the locals.”

And there’s no need to fill every hour with an activity: Leave time afterward for lunch, the railroad museum, or a walk through downtown. You’ve already made the drive. You might as well come home with a new favorite place to eat, too.

Find the Travel Nevada Adventure Center at 102 Nevada Way, open 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. daily, with free on-site parking. After 2 p.m., the Chamber office on the premises stays open until 5 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. on weekends.
