Why National Food Awards Ignore Vegas
National publications frequently run best-of roundups heralding the country’s top restaurants and bars; recent examples include the New York Times and Bon Appétit, which have featured restaurants from towns as far-flung as Juneau, Alaska, Caldwell, Idaho, and Iowa City. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas restaurant scene is usually excluded, ignored — snubbed, even. Why? Vegas locals know that our city’s scene has long evolved past the days of buffets and shrimp cocktails. So today, host Dayvid Figler puts the question to longtime journalist and restaurant marketing expert Eric Gladstone: Why isn’t the national food media paying more attention to Vegas, and what are they missing out on?
