| What Las Vegas's Talking About |
| 🤐 Lombardo Mum on Security Guard Concerns | Gov. Lombardo’s office declined to meet with firearms instructors who want tighter oversight of armed security guards and trainers in Nevada, including tougher restrictions on those carrying rifles and shotguns. [Nevada Current] | - Gov. Lombardo seems more interested in discussing other matters these days. City Cast Las Vegas digs into the details (and politics) of the governor’s recent executive order on the future of data centers, how it overlaps with concerns about school funding, and its relevance in a tight reelection campaign. | | | 🚨 Foolish Mistake in Deadly JetSki Crash | Two Las Vegas women, including one said to be pregnant with twins, were killed near St. George when a JetSki crashed upon hitting a cross wave at Sand Hollow State Park. No one on board was wearing a life jacket, including the driver, a Henderson man who’s now facing charges. According to detectives, he refused to wear a floatation device earlier that day because “he felt that he would look like a fool because he worked as a lifeguard.” The only good news: a dog thrown from the Jetski was rescued and brought to shore. [KVVU] | | 🏡 Little Pink Houses for You and Me | We’ve all seen them in Vegas — pink houses that you just know weren’t that color to begin with. It has to do with sun exposure over the years, and now at least three Inspirada homeowners are filing suit over it, calling the color change a defect. The defendant, Century Homes, argues it’s “normal wear and tear” that’s not covered under warranty. A home’s pink discoloration can harm the resale value and even be considered an HOA violation. [KTNV] | | 🏀 Vegas In Position to Score an NBA Team | Chatter about Las Vegas dominated the NBA Board of Governors meetings last week, placing our city in a stronger position than Seattle in securing an expansion team, although a decision on both is expected by the end of the year. | - Vegas has multiple bidders for a new franchise. Seattle only has one.
- The winning bid for Vegas is expected to be higher, despite Seattle being a larger city and media market.
- Even if both are approved, the Vegas and Seattle teams won’t necessarily start the same year.
- The 2028-2029 season is the target for expansion, but the league is willing to push that back if, for example, time is needed to build a new NBA-ready arena in Vegas.
- An investment group that loses out on a Vegas team could, in theory, pivot to Seattle and start a bidding war there. [New York Times]

| Is There Hope for Huntridge Circle Park? |
| | Huntridge Circle Park holds a unique place in Las Vegas history, but has been fenced off and mostly closed for years. Can things turn around? Friends of Huntridge Park is hosting a workshop tomorrow night, 5-7p.m., at the CCSD Family Resource Center, welcoming the public to brainstorm ideas for redesigning the park with UNLV landscape architecture students. In another sign of progress, the City of Las Vegas is teaming up with the Intuitive Forager for a farmers market in the park on Oct. 24. | | Also known as “Huntridge Park” among locals, the 3.5-acre site has a unique location in the center of Maryland Parkway. It dates back to 1957 when it was the centerpiece for the Huntridge neighborhood, one of the earliest planned residential subdivisions in Las Vegas. | | Ever since a drug overdose in 1971, the park has faced an up-and-down pattern of closures and reopenings, mostly connected to the presence of homeless camps. The problem has been a source of contention among neighbors. Some have fed the unhoused while others voice concerns over safety and drug use, especially after a fight between two men turned deadly in 2006. | | Friends of Huntridge Park has been working with UNLV students on design submissions since last year while coordinating with the City of Las Vegas to reimagine the park as a culture hub for the surrounding community, which has seen a resurgence of new investment in recent years. | | |
