Your Daily Guide

🥵 You may have noticed …

It’s getting hotter in Vegas. Hot enough that I yelled at somebody for leaving two dogs inside his car while walking into Von’s yesterday.

“You sure you want to do that?” I asked.

The guy had every excuse in the book. “I’ll only be a minute” … “I do it all the time” … but finally got back in the car and left. For all I know, he drove over to Smith’s across the street and did the same thing. I’d like to believe he loves his dogs, thought twice, and drove them home.

Don’t be afraid to speak up. We could reach 100 degrees today.

🤑 Vance on the Crypto Campaign Trail

JD Vance was in Las Vegas to talk about made-up fantasy money that doesn’t exist. No, not the “big, beautiful” budget bill — but cryptocurrency. The vice president was the keynote speaker at the Bitcoin Conference inside the Venetian, pushing a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to pass pro-crypto legislation in Congress. [Associated Press]

🎬 Is a Movie Studio Worth It?

While the Nevada Legislature weighs the benefits of tax credits for proposed movie studios by Sony and Warner Bros. in Las Vegas, a study by the governor’s office says the economic impact to the state could be less than originally anticipated. [KLAS]

🍎 Summer Without School

School’s out, but valuable resources are available to youngsters during summer break:

⛏️ History Worth Preserving

UNLV and Preserve Nevada updated their ongoing list of the state’s most endangered historic places. New additions include La Concha, a vintage motel that’s now the lobby of the Noen Museum, but may not survive a location change, the Commercial Hotel in Elko, and Florence Mine in Goldfield. The work and employment of historians are also at risk, due to funding cuts at national parks and monuments. [Preserve Nevada]
