There’s no excuse to skip a trip to Pahrump. Nye County’s largest community is just a 60-mile drive from Las Vegas — a straight shot west on State Route 160. The town has a rugged cowboy spirit, laid-back atmosphere, and an appreciation for the great outdoors.

Where to Eat
For an old-school dinner with no fuss, Stockman's Steakhouse at the Pahrump Nugget is about the closest thing to fine dining. You’ll also find quality eats at O Happy Bread (an authentic French cafe and bakery) and The Wine Down, a new social spot for drinks and charcuterie.
🍷 Where to Drink
The Pahrump Valley Winery used to be my favorite thing about Pahrump. The operation fizzled out under new ownership a few years ago, but the property is reopening soon as the Charleston Peak Winery, with devoted wine enthusiasts now in charge. You can also get your vino on at the Sanders Family Winery and Artisan Cellars. Pahrump mixes up the drinking scene further with Desert Cane Rum Distillery and Stonewise Meat & Cider.
🚣 What to Do
Pahrump is big on outdoor activities, whether kayaking in the water by the Lakeside casino or learning tactical shooting, archery, and rope rappelling at PrairieFire. Animals lovers can visit the petting zoo at Nature Health Farms or hang out with the resident burros at Death Valley Marketplace while shopping for vintage-style candy.
👄 Where to Find the Real Sin City
Unlike Vegas, Pahrump actually has legal brothels: The Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch allow transactions between consenting adults in a shame-free, safe environment.
Pahrump also trumps Vegas in legal fireworks. Stores like Blackjack Fireworks and AREA 51 Fireworks have their share of explosive fun for sale, although possession and use are illegal. Does that make sense? Not at all. But the general public is invited to set off Roman Candles and the rest of their stash at the official Fireworks Safety Site, open on and around select holidays throughout the year.
