🤑 Looking to save a few bucks?

The anticipated 5-Day Sale for the Las Vegas tourism industry is now active — and some deals look better than others.

A few hotels are barely playing along, especially with “incentives” like a $25 food and beverage credit.

That will barely cover a cocktail these days 👎

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🎨 Business Alliance Divides Arts District

An effort to launch a BID (Business Improvement District) in the Downtown Arts District is facing resistance from some of the business operators it’s designed to support. Debates are heating up over new fees to help the greater good, boundaries that expand the neighborhood as we currently know it, and a promotional strategy that appears to use A.I. to alter real-life murals and business exteriors for flyers and website images.

“There’s a fund that will pay for things like potentially advertising the area and more street sweeping or pressure washing. Things we might need. I just want to make sure that if it does pass, I have some say to make sure that money stays in the Arts District.”

Owner of ReBAR, Davy’s, and Barter Beer + Mall

City Cast Las Vegas talks to Arts District tavern owner Derek Stonebarger about his role with the BID and the already-established 18B Neighborhood Association to explain both sides of the story in today’s news roundup. The episode also looks at the disappearance of grass in local parks and our current Vegas fixations. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🚴 Legislature Poised to Act on E-Bike Laws

The Nevada Department of Public Safety awarded a grant of more than $666,600 to the UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, which is studying the rising injury rate of e-bikes and e-scooters. The research could help the Nevada legislature pass new laws on the devices during next year’s session. [KLAS]

💰 MAGA Megabucks Boosts GOP Challenge

A super PAC for President Trump and the MAGA agenda is spending more than $3 million on Republican Marty O’Donnell’s effort to unseat Rep. Susie Lee (D) in what is expected to be Nevada’s most competitive congressional race of the midterms. The influx gives O’Donnell, a former music video game composer, a spending edge in the battle for District 3, which covers the Southwest Valley and stretches down to Searchlight and Laughlin. Marijuana’s Dangerous Black Market Is Still Here

Despite easy access to legal cannabis in Southern Nevada, the black market is still active and continues to generate violent crime connected to low-level marijuana sales. Over a recent four-month span this year, three people were killed in cannabis-related incidents, including two robberies. At least six other killings with links to illegal marijuana date back to 2023. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • The numbers reflect a dangerous trend: total homicides are up this year in Metro’s jurisdiction. [KSNV]
  • Medical marijuana in Nevada was legalized in 2000. Recreational sales followed 17 years later. [Thrillist]
  • Despite the evolving legal landscape, cannabis use is generally prohibited in resorts with casinos due to strict gaming license standards and caution about skirting federal laws. A recent study revealed that casino policies on cannabis have discouraged tourism. [CDC Gaming]
  • The introduction of public consumption lounges never really caught on — despite their best efforts. [City Cast Las Vegas ✍️]
  • Society Elevated, which opened earlier this year, is the first new consumption lounge in two years. It’s now just one of three — along with Dazed at Planet 13 and Sky High at NuWu — still open. [Nevada Independent]
  • Up to a quarter of all marijuana sales in Nevada are on the black market, while legal sales trend downwards. [KVVU]
  • That means tax revenue, which redirects into education, was down nearly 9% in 2025 — $758 million, compared to $829 million in 2024. [Nevada Independent]
  • That’s bad news for the Clark County School System, which is currently facing a $52 million budget shortfall triggered by sagging enrollment numbers and broader economic headwinds. [KSNV]
  • It’s not the first time we’ve had to ask: Is legal cannabis a failed experiment in Nevada? [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🏜️ Saturday is National Public Lands Day.

That means you can skip the entry fees for all Nevada state parks, including Valley of Fire, Spring Mountain Ranch, and Ice Age Fossils State Park.

That last one only charges three bucks anyway, but every dollar counts while enjoying the great outdoors 👍
