| Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was treated at a Las Vegas hospital following a suicide attempt on Friday. [TMZ] | - The comedian was scheduled to perform at the Luxor that night and was seen earlier in the afternoon with two other people at Finney’s Crafthouse in Downtown Summerlin. Less than three hours later, police, fire, and EMT vehicles were outside his home. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
- Dates for Carrot Top’s prop-comedy show, which opened on the Strip more than 20 years ago, have been cancelled through at least Tuesday. His current contract runs until 2030. [Luxor Las Vegas]
- On the same day as the suicide attempt, a Florida publication ran a report on a lawsuit by a singer who claimed to be sexually exploited by Thompson. [Orlando Weekly]
- Just weeks ago, the plaintiff also threatened to submit a sex tape to the court docket unless he received $500,000, according to Thompson’s lawyer. [TMZ]
- Carrot Top has a reputation for not only having a show that overdelivers, but being one of the nicest public figures in Vegas. Thompson has yet to be found guilty in court. And there’s arguably little in the allegations that qualifies as illegal. Lawyers for the plaintiff offered to settle for nearly $8 million. [Vital Vegas]

| What Las Vegas's Talking About |
| ✍️ Gov. Lombardo Signs Executive Order on Data Centers | An executive order by Gov. Joe Lombardo now requires data centers to not only pay a formerly abated tax to fund schools, but cover their own costs for water and power. The new rules only apply to new and pending data center applications and don’t eliminate tax credits entirely. [Nevada Current] | - Lombardo has made education a focus of his reelection campaign as the Clark County School District (one of the largest in the nation) struggles with a $52 million budget cut. [KSNV]
- Challenger Aaron Ford went a step further, recently introducing a promise to pause all tax abatements for data centers going forward. [KTVN]
- Just days before Lombardo’s announcement, a Republican pollster warned candidates that data center support was a losing issue, urging positions reflected in the governor’s executive order. [Politico]
| | 👷 A Royal Sendoff On Near the Strip | The Royal Resort, which opened in 1970 and closed 50 years later during the pandemic, was demolished last week — just barely off the Strip on Convention Center Drive. It wasn’t a fancy Vegas implosion, but part of the demolition kicked up so much debris, it triggered false reports of a building collapse. [Las Vegas Review-Journal] | | | ⚖️ Challenge to Lone Mountain Temple Ends | Construction of a temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will continue near Lone Mountain. The Nevada Supreme Court dismissed appeals by a homeowners group that challenged the City of Las Vegas’ approval of the project, calling the construction intrusive and wanting to preserve the rural nature of the neighborhood. [KVVU] | | 🪧 Culinary Union Protests Themselves | It’s not unusual to see the Culinary Union protesting over pay outside a resort in Las Vegas, but this time around, members were marching outside their own headquarters near Spring Mountain and Decatur. At issue: promised hourly raises that turned out to be around 85 cents when the original figure was expected to be closer to $1.55. [KLAS] | | 🥕 Shop Fresh, Shop Local | Yes, you really can grow fresh fruits and vegetables in the desert. Today’s episode of City Cast Las Vegas looks at the importance of supporting local farmers, how to avoid tainted produce, and our top picks for Southern Nevada's best farmers markets.
