What Las Vegas's Talking About

💧 Colorado River Fallout Avoids Court … For Now

After the federal government proposed severe water cuts for the Colorado River’s lower basin, Nevada’s lead negotiator and SNWA Chief John Entsminger told an annual conservation summit Wednesday that “our first, second, and third choice is negotiation and cooperation.” If cooperation fails? I believe I hear a judge’s gavel, somewhere in the distance. [Nevada Independent]

  • We interviewed Entsminger on the pod earlier this year to dive into why Colorado River negotiations have gotten so bad. As these talks continue to sour, it’s worth a listen! [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🚌 Pay Stalemate Triggers Bus Driver Strike

A months-long salary dispute between local Teamsters Union drivers and the private bus company Transdev triggered a brief strike on Wednesday, leading to widespread disruptions of the RTC’s paratransit system. Those buses, designed to go door-to-door for mobility-restricted riders, are expected to be back to full capacity sometime over the next week. [KLAS/RTCSNV]

🤖 Raiders Ride Robotaxis?

Raiders fans will, at least, after the Las Vegas Raiders announced a multi-year deal with robotaxi service Waymo to ferry fans to Allegiant Stadium. It follows another promise by Waymo last month to start robotaxi service along the Strip. [KVVU]

😵‍💫 Cinnamon Roll Squabble

First, a Las Vegas cottage baker went viral for her cinnamon rolls. Then, she was shut down by code enforcement after neighbors complained about all the customer pickups. Now, the baker – Mama Llama Bakery – has gathered more than 2,200 signatures on a petition to protect cottage businesses like her own. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • Should cottage industries get special treatment? We tackle that question and more as the team also explores why Henderson Hospital is shuttering its NICU and maternity ward, and lightens the mood with your regular Good News Friday. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Save water where it matters most: outdoors

Over the past two decades, the community has collectively saved 200 billion gallons of water. Residents and businesses follow the mandatory seasonal watering schedule and replace grass with water smart landscaping. Golf courses operate within water budgets and utilize advanced irrigation technology. Just seven percent of the valley's water use is from resorts, which invest in water-efficient equipment. In addition, developers follow strict water-smart building codes inside and out.

Thank you, Southern Nevada! Keep conserving.
