What Las Vegas's Talking About

⚖️ Let’s Settle It: Who Killed Tupac?

After a long wait, lots of delays, and a prison fight, the trial of Duane "Keefe D" Davis begins today in Clark County District Court. He’s charged with murder in the 1996 shooting that killed rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas — although not accused of pulling the trigger. The 16-page list of potential witnesses includes some high-profile names, including former rap mogul Suge Knight (in the car with Shakur that night), former mayor Oscar Goodman, and Gov. Joe Lombardo, who was on the police force at the time. [KTNV/KSNV]

🚌 Wake Up Kids, Time for School

It’s also the first day of school for Clark County students. About a third of high schoolers spent summer vacation vaping. [Las Vegas Sun]

  • Hey parents: How are the school district’s new start times working out for your kids? And what are your thoughts on the limited-use cellphone policy, which now enters its second year? Let us know! 📬

🎸 President Endorses Hotel

While in Las Vegas last week, President Trump spoke highly of the in-progress Hard Rock Hotel & Casino: “I think it’s great … I hear the new Hard Rock will be something special. I’m all for it.” Who’s gonna tell him the new guitar-shaped hotel blocks the Trump International’s formerly unobstructed center Strip view? 🤔 [KVVU]

🚘 The Sahara Gets a Vegas Loop Station

Well, kinda. There's no direct access to an underground tunnel, but the Sahara now has a surface-street station (like any other rideshare or taxi service) near the Paradise entrance for Tesla shuttles to pick up customers. [KSNV]

🥗 Dead Salad Chain Resurrected for Java Drive-Thrus

On the heels of Salad and Go closing all operations, the chain’s assets were snatched up by Dutch Bros for $105 million with plans to turn all Nevada and Arizona locations into drive-thru coffee joints. [KVVU]

  • I know, I know. You’re not really in the mood for lettuce right now, anyway. (Thanks, Taco Bell.) How about some fresh seafood instead? City Cast Las Vegas talks to Las Vegas Instaguru Philip Tzeng (aka LasVegasFill) about the best Japanese food in Vegas, from low-cost street food to extravagant omakase dinners 🍣 [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Save water where it matters most: outdoors

Over the past two decades, the community has collectively saved 200 billion gallons of water. Residents and businesses follow the mandatory seasonal watering schedule and replace grass with water smart landscaping. Golf courses operate within water budgets and utilize advanced irrigation technology. Just seven percent of the valley's water use is from resorts, which invest in water-efficient equipment. In addition, developers follow strict water-smart building codes inside and out.

Thank you, Southern Nevada! Keep conserving.

🤑 Locals discount alert …

Anyone with a Nevada ID can now ride a Venetian gondola for $25 through Sept. 3 🛶

Yeah, I kinda thought that’s what the price should be anyway, but my brain can’t adjust to modern-day Stripflation. The regular price starts at $39.
