🛫 Hey Las Vegans …

July is shaping up to be one of the busiest travel periods of summer — and it helps to have Harry Reid International Airport so close and convenient in Las Vegas.

But it could be better.

A thembnail of the podcast "Your City Could Be Better"

That’s why I’m so excited about this week’s episode of City Cast’s national podcast “Your City Could Be Better” 👀 City Cast CEO David Plotz interviews airport expert Scott Keyes about what makes an airport great. They tackle airport accessibility and affordability, while highlighting amenities that make an airport feel truly representative of its city. Check it out here or wherever you get your podcasts 🎧

💧 Lombardo’s Role in Coyote Springs Dispute

Ever drive by Coyote Springs while road trippin’ on Route 93? The envisioned master-planned community didn’t turn into much beyond a remote golf course northeast of Vegas — and the developer is now suing Nevada for at least $1.5 billion in a dispute over water rights. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • City Cast Las Vegas looks at Gov. Lombardo’s role in the legal battle, prompting conflict-of-interest concerns involving the chair of his 2022 campaign and the rare move of replacing the state engineer in charge of managing Nevada’s water. The political drama headlines today’s news roundup, along with Boulder City’s latest data center dilemma and the fleet of driverless Waymo taxis coming to Las Vegas. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🌳 Trees Are Dying in Summerlin

Hundreds of mature ash trees — some more than 20 years old — are dying or missing in the North Summerlin area. According to a lawsuit filed against the Southern Nevada Water Authority earlier this year, a new Nevada law is to blame, requiring the removal of “nonfunctional grass” by January 2027 — while overlooking the function of grass to help trees thrive in their environments. ⛺ Numbers Rise in Homeless Count

The numbers are in for the first Point-in-Time Count of the unhoused in two years. On a January night in Las Vegas, volunteers counted 8,859 people considered homeless. That’s a spike of 12% since 2024. [Las Vegas Sun]

🌎 Formula One Wants It That Way

The Backstreet Boys wind down their Sphere residency next month, but return to the venue for an encore later in the year. The boy band will headline the first official F1 afterparty at the Sphere, following the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Nov. 21. Keep in mind — admission is only available as an add-on or part of a combined package with race tickets. [Billboard]

More Las Vegas Events

🍺 It’s a busy weekend in Las Vegas with the Silver State Brewfest at Tuscany Suites, the ongoing NBA Summer League at UNLV, and Conor McGregor’s first fight in five years at the T-Mobile Arena.

Tickets for that last one are on the pricey side. You may get more bang for your buck with a UFC 329 viewing party at Silver Sevens, 18bin, or the new Tailgate Beach Club instead 📺
