Your Daily Guide

Good morning, Vegas! It’s Bryan, once again filling in for Rob (don’t worry, we didn’t abduct him; he’ll be back in your inbox soon enough).

It’s going to be a scorcher this weekend. If you’re looking for some fun ways to beat the heat, might I recommend checking out a Juneteenth-themed double feature, celebrating the start of the 2026 World Cup, or getting up early (before it gets too hot) to hit up the A’s Farmers Market Takeover downtown. We’ve got more event picks for you below 👇

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🫠 It’s Going To Be a Hot Summer

Experts warn Southern Nevada is staring down another dangerously hot, record-breaking summer. Driven largely by long-term warming trends, it’s a more permanent shift — not a heat wave. Local officials are scrambling to respond by planning trees, expanding cooling centers, and doing more to protect vulnerable communities. [Las Vegas Sun]

  • It’s already starting: This weekend temps are predicted to hit 107 degrees every day, marking the first long-stretch of 100+ degree days since last August. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
  • How to beat the heat: During a heat wave in March, the City Cast Las Vegas team offered some of their favorite ways to beat the heat. [City Cast Las Vegas] 🎧

🚸 Bottom Of the Class

Despite modest improvements in childhood poverty and teen birth rates, Nevada once again ranks among the nation’s worst states for child wellbeing. The latest Kids Count report ranks Nevada 46th in the nation, pointing to ongoing struggles with healthcare access, education outcomes, and rising housing costs. Advocates warn it’ll take “real courageous action: and serious investments by the state to make right the course.” [Nevada Current]

⚾ A Very Vegas Warmup

The Athletics kicked off their highly anticipated Las Vegas home series this week with a sold-out crowd, pyrotechnics, and celebrity cameos from DJ Pauly D and Nick Carter. But if you looked in the crowd, it was a colorful sea of Dodgers, Brewers, and Yankees jerseys. It’s clear the team can throw a Vegas party, but can they convert a city of sports fan transplants into actual green-and-gold loyalists? [The Athletic]

  • Something in the air? They may not have the crowd’s loyalty yet, but they certainly have the bats — the A’s took their series against the Brewers at Las Vegas Ballpark and are bringing a newfound offensive confidence into their next matchup against the Rockies. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

💻 Hitting the Tech Jackpot

Las Vegas-based AI startup TensorWave shattered state records with a massive $350 million Series B funding round, driving its valuation to $1.55 billion. The cloud computing company plans to use the cash influx to rapidly expand its global data center footprint — though, ironically, none of those centers are located in Nevada. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
