Today's Big Picture

Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

All this and more. (MichelleMaria Pitzel/Pixabay)

👑 Tilman Fertitta: The New Caesar

If you own stock in Caesars Entertainment, you’ll get $31 in cash for every share after Tilman Fertitta finalized a deal to buy the company and take it private. The transaction is worth $17.6 billion, which includes a $5.7 billion payment and acquiring nearly $12 billion in debt. [Associated Press]

  • The billionaire owns the Houston Rockets and Laundry’s restaurants — and we really hope Guy Savoy doesn’t get replaced by a Rainforest Cafe 🤞 [Texas Business Hall of Fame]
  • Fertitta’s casino interests include the Golden Nugget chain and more shares in Wynn Resorts than anyone else. And yes, he’s part of the Fertitta family that operates Station Casinos, although there’s no significant overlap in business empires. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
  • Fertitta dropped plans last year to build his own hotel and casino on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and Harmon. (I guess sometimes, it’s better to buy used than new.) Funny enough, a conflict with his Wynn investment was given as the reason 🤔 [KSNV]
  • The sale is raising antitrust concerns and questions about the $31 share price being too low. [Nevada Independent]
  • The crown jewel of the company, Caesars Palace, celebrates 60 years on the Strip this summer. Its Roman theme is an iconic part of Vegas — and has nothing to do with Tilman Fertitta's appointment as ambassador to Italy by President Trump. [The Texas Tribune]

A Modern Eye on Vintage Vegas: Meet Holly Erker of IS LUXURY

The Property:

For the first time in over two decades, 3001 Astoria Pines is yours to discover. The finest craftsmanship and the charm of Martha's Vineyard come together here, blending East Coast sophistication with modern luxury to create a truly dreamy retreat. Coffered ceilings, intricate crown molding, and custom casings adorn nearly every room — a testament to the extraordinary detail and artistry woven into every corner of this residence.

The Neighborhood:

Behind the guard gate of Rancho Nevada Estates — an exclusive enclave of just seven homes — sits Astoria Pines. The land, once owned by Our Lady of Las Vegas School directly behind the property, was sold to Astoria Development Corporation, which brought this intimate community to life. The Collins Brothers served as developers, a team with a strong Las Vegas legacy that also includes Rancho Nevada, Paradise Crest, Oakcrest, Spanish Oaks, Green Valley Estates, and Stone Canyon Homes.

What Las Vegas's Talking About

💰 Potential Buyer Stakes a Claim in Primm

Truck stop company LV Petroleum is eager to buy Primm — to not only keep the gas stations open, but to revive the casino industry too, starting with Whiskey Pete’s. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • Not so fast, say the owners of the land, who clarify that any reports of an agreement are “overstated and premature,” while continuing to weigh opportunities. [KTNV]

🔌 Lights Out in the Arts District

Power was shut off in the Arts District for nine hours Wednesday, prompting restaurants to throw away food. It appears NV Energy didn’t fully secure permits for work related to the shutdown and will face a fine. [KLAS]

  • Staying Alive: That same night, a performance by the Australian Bee Gees tribute act was cut short at the Excalibur due to a fire inside the theater. A faulty fog machine was to blame. [Neon/Las Vegas Review-Journal]

👍 Good Grades, Bad Behavior 👎

After just one day, Cowabunga Bay canceled the rest of its “Great Grades Days” promotion, which gave free admission to students who scored at least three A’s on their report card and discounted entry for up to six guests. Apparently, Tuesday was enough, bringing out a wave of unruly teenagers to the water park. [KSNV]
