Your Daily Guide

🎁 We officially wrapped up our spring campaign on Friday … but we have a great excuse to stretch it out one more day.

City Cast Las Vegas is hosting a members-only raffle to win a pair of tickets to Isang Kusina, a seven-course culinary celebration at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center on Friday, May 22. Seven chefs will prepare a dish — each one representing a different region of the Philippines.

The dinner is presented by Istorya, a collective recognized for making our community a better place in the inaugural City Cast 7 🙏

The raffle is open exclusively to all City Cast Las Vegas Neighbors, who will receive the raffle form this afternoon in the weekly members-only events email.

Today's Big Picture

💻 Cyberattack Exposes Risks in Online Education

Can students learn, study, and take tests without the online world? That question was raised last week, following a cybertack that restricted access to Canvas online education systems. I suspect reliance on pencils, paper, and a hear me out — books — could solve the problem, but don’t fear, service is back online. [Associated Press]

  • The cyberattack was carried out by Shinyhunters, a hacking group that’s active on the dark web and known for massive data dumps. The group was first detected in the Canvas system on May 1 before shutting down access on Thursday while demanding ransom. [Wired]
  • On a local level, students with UNLV, CSN, and Clark County public schools were affected. [KTNV]
  • Canvas is used by more than 30 million students to submit assignments, take quizzes and exams, communicate with teachers, and receive grades, instructions, and announcements. [The Oklahoman]

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🏍️ The Arts District Gets a Museum

It’s the Evel Knievel Experience, where you can browse the daredevil’s costumes, equipment, and vehicles (like Snake River Canyon Skycycle X-2.), and take a simulated 4D jump for all the exhilaration without the broken bones. It opens June 27. Tickets are on sale now. [Casino.org]

  • An upcoming motorcycle jump by Colby Raha on May 17 will attempt to set a world record by an extra 100 feet at Caesars Palace, the same casino where Knievel famously flew over the fountain, but crashed on landing in 1967. [KSNV]

🔥Taylor Swift’s Legal Army Shades Las Vegan

Remember the Vegas performer suing Taylor Swift, claiming the singer’s “Life of a Showgirl” album title was too similar to her own “Confessions of a Showgirl” brand? Well, T-Swizzle’s lawyers are firing back in a spicy legal brief, calling the suit “absurd,” while saying plaintiff Maren Flagg “performs, if at all” in small venues, including active adult communities and golf courses for those 55 and older. [Page Six]

🏆 Nevada: The Best at Having the Least

When a place is described as “dry,” it usually means there’s no booze allowed. Nevada doesn’t have that problem 🥃 But our state is the driest in the nation, averaging just over 10 inches of rain per year. The national average is close to 30 inches. [KSNV]

🎰 Did California Tank Primm?

The impending closure of nearly everything in Primm was only a matter of time, especially after California loosened the laws for tribal casinos to operate throughout the Golden State in 2000. There are now more than 80 tribal casinos in California that collectively saw revenue increase from $8 billion to $12 billion over 10 years, in part by drawing customers that used to visit Primm. • But how’s Las Vegas doing? Visitation dropped in 2025 — for a whole host of reasons — and we’re starting to evaluate the numbers for this year. City Cast Las Vegas looks at the state of Las Vegas tourism and if the Strip can bounce back in 2026. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
