Your Daily Guide

🥳 We made it! Today is the final day of our City Cast Las Vegas Neighbors spring membership campaign.

Three dogs in front of a pennant.

Artificial. No intelligence. (Nano Banana 2)

If at least 10 more members sign up, my doggies will do the zoomies 💫 Don't wait! Today is your last chance to score the Oxford Pennant — a custom American-made wool felt pennant designed specifically for people who love Las Vegas.

Over the past two weeks, we've welcomed so many new Neighbors into our community, and we’re grateful for the support. If you haven't joined yet, today is the day. We're here because we believe our city is worth showing up for — worth understanding, worth celebrating, worth investing in. And we can only keep doing this work if Neighbors like you are willing to bet on it.

Show some neighborly love ♥️

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🏠 Dozens of Homes Sinking in Lake Las Vegas

As it turns out, creating a 320-acre lake in the Henderson desert might’ve been a bad idea. Nearly 90 homes at Lake Las Vegas appear to be sinking, causing structural damage and prompting a legal battle. Del Webb is complaining of defects and land not suitable for construction, while Pulte Homes of Nevada is defending the work and offering to make repairs. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

  • City Cast Las Vegas presents both sides of the debate during the latest Friday news roundup, plus plans to boost Vegas tourism this summer and a long, strange trip to revive the Huntridge Theater. City Cast Las Vegas Neighbors get a bonus segment on Primm shutting down, and if there's any possibility of saving it. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

🤷 Mailing Guns … What Could Go Wrong?

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is opposing a proposal by the Trump administration that would allow handguns to be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service for the first time in nearly 100 years. Licensed dealers currently have some leeway to do so, but the Department of Justice argues the Second Amendment also gives “law-abiding citizens” the right. [Associated Press]

🎆 Vegas to Party Hard for America’s Birthday

America’s 250th birthday is coming up and Las Vegas plans to celebrate in a big way with eight straight Saturdays of fireworks from June 6 to July 25. The shows will erupt from above a rotating lineup of Strip and Downtown hotels. Before you check your calendar app, yes July 4th is on a Saturday this year — and the biggest show takes place that night. [Las Vegas Sun]

⏳ Is The Hat All That?

The Hat, a Los Angeles favorite for pastrami sandwiches since 1951, just opened its first Las Vegas location in Spring Valley. Cars lined up for blocks down the street to reach the drive-thru on opening day. Insiders tell me the pastrami is pretty good, but not that good. [KSNV/seventensuited on X]

Neighborhood Shoutouts

Once again, City Cast Las Vegas Neighbors get to shout out their favorite local people, places, and things.

📣 Katie O. wants to give a shoutout to Simpli Sushi. “They are a family-run business that just opened their first brick and mortar restaurant after using a ghost kitchen for many years,” she says. “Great quality sushi and fun vibes in the Henderson area.”

📣 Aimee S. is a supporter of the Southern Nevada Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care, whose next meeting is Tuesday, May 12 at the Cobblestone Cottage near Summerlin. “It's $10 to attend and then a $100 donation can be made directly through Grapevine” to one of three presenting nonprofits, she says. “Organizations for this quarter include Hear Me Roar Foundation, Junior Achievement, and Street Dogz.”
