🏗️ Heart-Shaped Hotel Could Replace Strip Eyesore

Aren’t you sick of looking at those concrete pillars across from Mandalay Bay? They were originally part of the planned SkyVue observation wheel, but the project was abandoned. Now, the land has been sold for $70 million to developer Eli Applebaum, who wants to build a casino-resort with a heart-shaped LED facade. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🎰 Casinos To Blame for Sex Trafficking?

The same week “Dances With Wolves” actor Nathan Chasing Horse was sentenced to at least 37 years for sexual assault, two of his victims are filing suit against Boyd Gaming and Station Casinos. The mother and daughter claim employees at The Cannery and Santa Fe Station acted as informants and lookouts while the women were forced to have sex with strangers. [KLAS]

  • Lakeisha Holloway received a sentence of 18 years to life more than 10 years after she drove on a Strip sidewalk, killing a mother and injuring dozens more. The incident prompted the construction of new safety bollards on Las Vegas Boulevard. [KVVU]

🏀 T-Mobile Arena: Open to Options for NBA Team

MGM Resorts is still angling for an NBA team — even on a potential short-term basis — at the T-Mobile Arena, which is also where the Vegas Golden Knights play. [KSNV]

  • The Knights could extend a season comeback and advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs by beating the Utah Mammoth tonight. [Associated Press]
  • Tailgate Beach Club — a new concept that’s like a pool party and sports bar in one — officially opens to the public tonight with a Golden Knights viewing party.
  • More sports: Vegas could also get a Major League Soccer team — and yes, somebody wants to build a stadium for that too. [ESPN]

🏘️ The Rent Is Too Damn … Huh?

According to a UNLV study, rent is down overall in Las Vegas, but mostly as an incentive for new tenants. Those who choose to renew leases are rewarded for their loyalty with higher rates. [KTNV]

  • City Cast Las Vegas looks at the rage over rent, plans to do something new with the monorail, and why a new mile-long trail could be the start of something more during the latest Friday news roundup. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]
