🍄 It’s-a-me … Roberto!

I’m back after a too-brief SoCal vacation over the weekend. No, I didn’t see Artemis 2 descend off the coast in person, but I stumbled walked into a hotel bar just minutes before splashdown.

All eyes were fixed on the TV, and an older woman next to me said something so simple but beautiful, I had to write it down …

“It’s nice to have something that’s a common joy for all of us.”

Let’s continue the week with the same communal spirit 🚀

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🎶 Art Museum Mad About Music in the Arts District

Taverna Costera, which has hosted live music for years, is being sued by its landlord over noise levels. The plaintiff is responding to complaints by another tenant, the neighboring Southern Nevada Art Museum, which just opened in March and is threatening to revoke a $40,000 deposit. [KLAS]

  • Taverna Costera offered evidence the landlord signed off on an expanded patio fence in question and claims the plaintiff is withdrawing his properties (which include the Arts Factory and Art Square) from actively participating in First Friday to use the grounds for paid parking instead during the monthly art walk. 🏀 New Arena Proposed South of Strip

File under “maybe” 🤔 The developers of Starr Vegas claim to have investors in place for a 52-acre art and entertainment complex on empty land near Las Vegas Blvd. and Starr Avenue. That’s actually a great place for something like that — instead of trying to shoehorn another arena into an already crowded Strip. If built, it would have 25,000 seats to host an incoming NBA team. 🐝 Beware Killer Bees in Summerlin

Spring is the season for allergies, dayclubs, and Africanized Honey Bees — also known as “killer bees” 😳 After reports of an encounter at a Summerlin park, an exterminator offers some safety advice: run. (Really.) The bees will give up the chase after a few hundred yards. [KTNV]

📛 ‘Hello, My Name Is Jesse’

You may’ve heard: City Cast Las Vegas has a new host — the talented Jesse Merrick 🥳 So we’re giving him both a paycheck and a merit badge for his first full-fledged episode as host. This one rolls out a checklist for what it means to be a true Las Vegas local. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Bring a World Class Piano to LVA

On Monday, April 20, the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Music Conservatory will host a Faculty Fundraising Concert, showcasing their music faculty as performers while raising funds for critical instrument needs. Their goal is to raise $50,000 to support the acquisition of a Steinway Concert Grand piano.

Tax Day Freebies, Deals, and Discounts in Las Vegas

An Old Fashioned cocktail.

I’d pay $10.40 for this 👍 (Rob Kachelriess/City Cast Las Vegas)

It’s April 15 — the deadline to file taxes (or file an extension, slackers). If you’re in the hospitality field, I hope the “no tax on tips” thing worked out this year. If not, a few local businesses have discounts to take the sting off any bill.

🍕 To match the 1040 used to file taxes, you’ll get $10.40 off when ordering at least $40 worth of food at Grimaldi’s. The deal is good for the pizzerias in Boca Park, Henderson, and Spring Valley (Rainbow & Warm Springs), but not the one inside the Grand Canal Shoppes.

🍔 It’s not a Tax Day special, but this deal happens to fall on it. The Dispensary Lounge is serving $7 burgers (featuring a full half-pound of beef) every Wednesday to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. The deal is dine-in only, good from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a drink purchase.

👠 The Crazy Horse 3 gentlemen’s club is giving a free cocktail or beer to anyone who shows proof of a filed tax return … so bring documentation, I guess 🤷 A lap dance will cost you.

🍺 BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, which has five valley locations, is giving guests $10 off a $40 order. (Use the code TAXDAY when ordering online.) You can also take advantage of the regular Wednesday burger deal, which comes with unlimited fries for $12.99.

🥃 The Las Vegas Distillery is honoring happy hour prices all day long and serving its Old Fashioned for just $10.40 👀 There’s also a special bourbon-glazed meatloaf available as part of the regular Wednesday night Supper Club series.

🍕California’s Round Table Pizza now has three Las Vegas locations. The Tax Day deal for 15% off extends to April 19 with the code RTP978.

🍩 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will give you a free dozen (original glazed) with the purchase of any dozen.

🧘 Taxes can be stressful, so a sunset yoga class at UNLV could be the right way to wrap up the day. The 6 p.m. event at the Student Recreation & Wellness Center is geared towards alumni, students, and their families, but everyone is welcome. Just RSVP.

  • At least we don’t have to pay state taxes in Nevada 👍 We explain why. [City Cast Las Vegas ✍️]
