It took about three days to go from stunned disbelief to depression. I was active in the Harris/Walz campaign, participating in many Zoom calls with thousands of other excited supporters. I honestly believed that she had a chance to win. I'm 80 years old and I feel very sad that this may be the way the country is for the rest of my life.

I have a genuine fear about where this country is heading. I was out and about this weekend and as a Black woman, I felt a little uncomfortable. I feel like Trump has emboldened people to show their racist side. I know that not all people who voted for him are racist but there are definitely some out there.

It used to be illegal to give away incentives to get people to vote. Free food and drinks for registered voters or people wearing "I Voted" stickers is coercion even if you're not telling them how they should vote.

My ballot was also rejected. There was nothing wrong with it. I have been signing the same all my life. I think it is the way Republicans are trying to steal the election.

I'm happy to be in a country where no matter what one thinks of the government, they have the power to change it every 2-4 years. I vote, I trust the system, and I don't hate my neighbors, no matter where they are from or who they voted for. That is the essence of America.
