| What Las Vegas's Talking About |
| | Brightline broke ground on this yesterday. (Brightline West) |
| 🚄 Brightline is Ready to Go (We Think) | Pete Buttigieg says there’s “no going back” once Americans get used to high-speed rail. The Transportation Secretary appeared at yesterday’s groundbreaking for the 218-mile Brightline West, connecting Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga by 2028. Senator Jacky Rosen noted the project has “all the funding needed” 🤔 [MSNBC, KSNV] | | | 💊 Abortion Pills at the Pharmacy | CVS and Walgreens are now selling mifepristone by prescription in Nevada, following a push by Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. The legality of the medication, used for more than half of all abortions, is being challenged before the U.S. Supreme Court — so sales could be short-lived. [Nevada Independent] | | 🦃 Illegal Turkey Dump | Nevada Wildlife is trying to track down two people in connection to the dumping of 25 turkeys in Key Pittman Wildlife Management Area north of Las Vegas. How you end up with 25 turkeys in the first place, I don’t know. But they sound delicious 😋 [KTNV] |

| Urban Almanac: The Cuteness Overload of the White-Tailed Antelope Ground Squirrel |
| | A white-tailed antelope ground squirrel in Valley of Fire State Park. (James Marvin Phelps/Getty) |
| If you spot a tiny furball darting across a desert landscape — whether it’s a park, playground, or construction site — you’ve probably caught a glimpse of the white-tailed antelope ground squirrel, an omnipresent mascot for the Southwest United States. | | 🐿️ So Dang Cute | The white-tailed antelope ground squirrel is similar in appearance to a chipmunk, since both animals typically have a white stripe along the back. The squirrels grow to about 7.5 inches long and live up to four years in the wild. These creatures don’t waste any time, mating around a year after birth. | | 👇 Living Underground | As the name suggests, the squirrels burrow underground, carving out habitats to protect them from the sun and predators. They sleep at night and favor shady spots during the day. The squirrels also used their tails as umbrellas for instant relief from the sun ☀️ | | 🌱 A Diverse Diet | Roaming throughout four acres each day, ground squirrels feed on plants and seeds, but won’t turn down the chance to munch on a mouse or lizard either. The creatures carry their food in pouches inside their cheeks, drawing yet another comparison to the chipmunk. |

| | | A view of the Strip from Central Park in Cadence. (Cadence) |
| Cadence is redefining the modern Henderson lifestyle. Since opening nearly 10 years ago, the 2,200-acre master-planned community has grown to 24 neighborhoods with eight more to come this year. Everything is designed with walkability in mind, emphasizing parks, lakes, and walkways. | | 🛒 A Fully Equipped Community | You really don’t need to leave Cadence if you don’t want to. Pick up groceries at Smith’s at the Cadence Village Center, which also has Great Clips, Cafe Rio, Starbucks, and other businesses. Wells Fargo, Broken Yolk, and EOS Fitness are planned as well. | | 🏡 Homes Built Around Parks | The 50-acre Central Park is the heart of the community, featuring an adventure playground, picnic tables, amphitheaters, and impressive views of the Strip. But each individual neighborhood has at least one park of its own. A hundred-acre community sports park is on tap for 2025. | | 🐶 Dogs Have the Life | Cadence is extremely pet-friendly. How much so? The Cadence Animal Hospital opened before the ER at Cadence — an extension of Henderson Hospital that welcomes (human) patients later this year. The Dakota Dog Park has three play areas for canines of all sizes to run around. | | 🧭 Location is Everything | Cadence is northeast of Boulder Highway and Lake Mead Parkway, making it centrally located for quick visits to the historic Water Street district, Lake Las Vegas, Galleria at Sunset, and Green Valley Ranch — as well as local faves like Jessie Rae’s BBQ and Boom Bang Fine Foods & Cocktails. | | 🌳 It’s Not Just for Homeowners | Guests are welcome to attend farmers markets, movies on the lawn, and other events — or snap photos of the street signs inspired by Pokémon. |
